AICON-BIO® Equine Arteritis Virus (EAV) Real-time PCR Kit
$338.00 – $672.00
The AICON-BIO® Equine Arteritis Virus (EAV) Real-time PCR Kit provides a fast, accurate and reliable method for detecting Equine Viral Arteritis (EAV) nucleic acid using real-time PCR technology. Validated on nasopharyngeal swab, whole blood, semen from horses. The lyophilized one-step qPCR mix stays stable during transport and storage without a cold chain. Available in 48T and 96T.
The AICON-BIO® Equine Arteritis Virus PCR Kit is a lyophilized, one-step real-time PCR assay for the qualitative detection of EAV nucleic acid in nasopharyngeal swab, whole blood, semen, aborted foetus and foetal lung tissue samples from horses. Supplied in 48T and 96T, it runs on any real-time PCR instrument and returns a result in about 75 minutes.
Why this kit
Why laboratories choose this Equine Arteritis Virus PCR kit
Intended use
What the Equine Arteritis Virus PCR Kit detects
Qualitative detection of Equine Arteritis Virus (EAV) nucleic acid in equine nasopharyngeal swabs, whole blood, semen, aborted foetuses, foetal lung tissue and other appropriate clinical specimens. Results aid the clinical diagnosis of Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA) and should be interpreted alongside clinical and other laboratory findings.

Kit contents
What is in the Equine Arteritis Virus PCR kit box
| Component | Quantity | Composition |
|---|---|---|
| EAV Real-Time PCR Lyophilized Tube | 8 tests/bag × 12 | Target-specific primers, probe, enzyme and dNTPs |
| Lyophilized Reconstitution Buffer | 450 µL/tube × 6 | Buffer for reconstituting the reaction tubes |
| Positive Control | 1 tube | Synthetic plasmid carrying the target sequence |
| Negative Control | 1 tube | Nuclease-free control material |
| Instructions for Use | 1 copy | Supplied with every kit |
Quantities shown are for the 96T configuration; the 48T kit contains half quantities.
Workflow
Four steps from extract to result
- Extract nucleic acid with any commercial extraction kit.
- Reconstitute one lyophilized tube with the supplied buffer, mix, spin briefly.
- Combine 20 µL reconstituted reagent + 5 µL template (or control) = 25 µL reaction.
- Run the FAM-channel cycling programme; the instrument software reads the result.
Thermal cycling programme
| Cycles | Temperature | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 1 cycle | 50 °C | 10 min |
| 1 cycle | 95 °C | 3 min |
| 45 cycles | 95 °C | 15 sec |
| 60 °C (FAM read) | 30 sec |
Set the reaction volume to 25 µL and select the FAM channel. On ABI systems leave the analysis threshold at its default value of 0.2.
Result interpretation
Reading the run
| Ct value | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Ct < 37 | Positive |
| 37 ≤ Ct < 45 | Suspicious — retest with a fresh sample |
| No Ct | Negative |
Sample handling
Specimen collection & storage
| Tissue | Green-bean-sized piece into a 1.5 mL tube with 500 µL preservation solution; grind with a disposable pestle; centrifuge 1 min; take the supernatant. |
|---|---|
| Whole blood | Collect into an EDTA anticoagulant tube. |
| Serum | Allow the blood to clot or centrifuge at low speed; collect the supernatant. |
| Swab | Smear the sampling site, place the tip into a 1.5 mL tube with 500 µL preservation solution; grind a few seconds; centrifuge 1 min; take the supernatant. |
Storage & stability
Lyophilized reagents ship at room temperature — no cold chain required. On arrival, store the lyophilized reagents at −20 °C; liquid reagents below 4 °C. Stable until the expiry date printed on the label. Keep the tubes sealed in their aluminium pouches to prevent moisture uptake and bring them to room temperature before use. Once reconstituted, seal tightly, store at −20 °C and use within one month.
